Missing in Action: Lessons Learned through Moving0
Writing this blog is a real source of joy. I love to read your comments and feedback. I usually write one entry per week. I was house sitting for friends, who decided to return early. That meant I literally had to get a …..move on and I mean that literally. I hadn’t purchased a laptop yet….so my Internet access was a bit compromised.
Lessons learned from life interruption #359,278,999 (I think that’s right according to last count):
1. Write blog articles early and store in Word.
2. Use the Four-Day-Win, as mentioned in Last post to avoid procastination.
3. If my status is temporary, have a plan X in place in case of the necessity to move quickly.
4. Connect with incredible friends. Yes, one of my friends offered me the opportunity to stay in her Topanga Canyon home until she sells or rents it. It has an incredible view of the awesome greenery, mountains, etc. that come with living in Topanga, CA.
5. Admit that I need help. Who am I kidding by doing this independently? I certainly am not going to super hero status. People, truly do want to help damsels in distress. This need to “not bother anyone” and “move on my own” just uncovered another tangle of limiting thoughts.
6. When life stressors occur, this truly is the time to pay attention to your body and your emotions and your THOUGHTS. Those pesky stubborn thoughts buried in my mind for years had been in hiding. However, with a bit more stress than asked for, I smoked some more of these tidbits velcro’ed in my brain.
7. Write down each thought that surfaces, then do “The Work” courtesy of Byron Katie. It’s painful to investigate unexamined thoughts, but it’s a few less boulders to walk around with in the final analysis. See www.thework.com for a list of the questions. I use my spiral notebook with a box of tissue nearby, as I address the thoughts that continue to contribute to any emotional suffering.
8. Make sure that the moving crew you hire doesn’t view friendliness as flirting. Clarify in advance if a certain gratuity is required. I could go on and on about hiring a local service to move heavy items, but that’s really not my point. Just remember to clarify. My money is related to my dreams. I don’t want to spend it on extras like “add on” expenses for moving.
9. Going through a move and other life stressors at the same time is not a good plan. My life registered off the “Richter Scale” in the stress department. Be gentle with myself. I’m definitely worth it, as are everyone of my readers.
10. One really positive thing about moving….IT BURNS CALORIES! (Yeah, another four pounds shed). It just goes to show that rainbows do come after the storms. I’m on the look out for more rainbows.
Anyone else have insights about moving.
Let me know.
