Meltdown Madness: What to Do About Money Woes?1
When I first started writing this blog in January of 2008, I had the vision that I wanted this to be a generic blog. I wanted to offer the world some comfort from my corner of the world. The concerns of the world were beginning to go south then, but no one expected the crazy chaos related to the economy.
First of all, I’m not a political pundit. Yeah sure, I could spout out opinions. However, I want to use my place in cyber space to be a blog that offers comfort. I want you to feel free to come to this blog when you need a shot of hope or enthusiasm. Certainly, I’d love to solve all that is wrong with the world by giving you platitudes “This too shall pass”. or “When the tough gets going, the tough so shopping???” I guess the last one isn’t very helpful in terms of “happy thoughts”.
I do want to give you the dose of truth as I know it. First of all, this is not a time to give faith in God, the divine, or whatever you word you use to refer to the “Heavenly Father” a thumbs down. I’ve seen too many life miracles, too much magic and received too many whispers from God to lose faith. This is a time to realize that any change that you’re experiencing is a “catalyst for a new beginning”. My Life Coach Teacher, Martha Beck, refered to this part of the change process as “Death and Rebirth”. It’s the first stage of change and truly is like living in “donkey flats”. I’ve seen my life go through the “butterfly cycle” of change on more than one occasion. This is not the fun part. In fact those of you, who believe in God, are probably certain that God is hybernating for the winter.
With the economy in a mess, many of you are going through a forced change. It’s normal to be mad, to want to kick your car, to slam doors, to just sit down and cry, to worry yourself to the point of a cerebral fracture. That’s okay. If you’re human, this is to be expected. This is not a sign of a lack of faith in the divine. It means that your mourning the way your life used to be. If you lost your job, you be mourning a part of your identity.
So what can you do to get over it????????? Believe it or not….DO NOTHING. This is the first menu item that Martha Beck lists on the Joy Diet. Really do nothing, but be still. We sang a hymn in church today based on Psalm 46:10. It’s titled “Be Still and Know that I am God”. I truly believe that God knows what’s happening here on earth and that we are truly worried about our money. This is a lack/attack fear. Feel the feeling of fear and just be with it. Spend some really quiet time getting reacquainted with God or get back on the walk of faith. Find a blanket or a throw. Wrap yourself in it and give yourself a hug.
The answer you need and crave so badly may not come today. However, you have no ideal how many angels are working behind the scenes to give you the experiences that are perfect for you. Doing nothing is free and it really frees your mind. The only rule for “Doing Nothing” is to cease the worrying. Label your fear and go back to doing nothing. Just be stil and site fears when they pop up, but don’t let them steal your “Nothing” time. This is the time for you to get more in touch with your spiritual side.
Keep practicing the stillness of just being. Worry rarely solves things, but it sure causes all kinds of gremlin thoughts and health issues.
Wishing you the best,
Mary Ann
